Public bug reported: Running Ubuntu 8.10 upgraded from 8.04, with kubuntu-desktop added on, but gdm for login. With the newly released nvidia binary drivers and compiz appearance "normal" openoffice 2.4.1 has no menu text and no tooltip text. The menu's and toolbars and icons still exist and still work. Appearance "none" has menu text. The "nv" video driver has menu text.
I haven't found any other Ubuntu applications which have the disappearing menu text problem, though there is at least one forum posting http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=974493 which mentions other 3rd party apps with similar issues. A web search suggests that this isn't the first time openoffice has had problems with menu text; it's been noted on many versions across multiple Linux distributions. While the dratted nvidia binary closed source driver can shoulder most of the blame, with a side helping for compiz, the fact that most applications have normal menu's while openoffice doesn't suggests that there might be a workaround possible in openoffice. ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- 8.10 - compiz "normal" + nvidia binary video loses openoffice menu text https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
