Baptiste, apologies for my earlier somewhat ranty message, I was rather frustrated at the time! I would just like to thank you for replying to my message, and for explaining the exact issues involved. I realise now that this is neither a gnome or ubuntu issue, and as such there isn't much you can do about it! This is the type of developer attitude that brought me to ubuntu in the first place, and which is nowadays often sadly lacking in other bug reports.
