I have a very similar problem. First start Evolution, no problem. Then for some reason, the thing will start to hang while checking addresses. When it does, gnome is completely locked up. This is very annoying when trying to work, and may force me back to Windows. I sure hoep it gets fixed. I'd be happy to try to debug, but my skills are pretty limited.
