Hello, I think the issue is because you used sudo to change the settings: "sudo gconf-editor"
AFAIK, gconf setting are saved on a per user basis. Thus running "sudo gconf-editor" will affect the root user, not the user you use on a daily basis. Do not use sudo, try this: "gconf-editor", perform the same steps as you did and it should work.
