I'm have not yet upgraded to 8.10. I'm currently on 8.04. Up until very recently, i have been required to live with suspend/hibernate problems by quitting Firefox and Skype. At certain times, with some versions, unplugging all USB devices has also been an improvement. I have avoided rebooting the computer for several days by using these work-around procedures.
