Public bug reported:

The problem is similar to bug #120856
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/120856) and is under
Intrepid.

There are four special hotkey buttons on my keyboard: one for mail, one
for internet, one for switching wireless on and off, and one for desktop
search. While the two former work perfectly (also producing the codes
XF86Mail and XF86HomePage in the GNOME Keyboard Shortcuts window), the
latter two don't seem to react whatsoever.

I have had a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HotkeyResearch for finding the
keycodes for the two special keys in question, but neither of the four
methods listed gave any result (actually the 3rd doesn't seem to work,
the tail command yielded: "tail: can't open '/var/log/acpid' for readng
: No such file or directory\\tail: no files left [translated commands
from Danish]"). Have I missed any (other) method for fetching the
keycodes?

The hope is that the search key could be easily set in the Shortcuts
window to for example start a search window in Nautilus whereas the
wireless button could disable and enable the wireless; this seems to
always on (according to the Network Manager applet and the list of
available networks) when I boot. I would like it to obey the wireless
button, which by the way controls an LED - that works very well!.

"sudo dmidecode -s system-manufacturer
Notebook
sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name
SAM2010
sudo dmidecode -s system-version
1058"
