I am the original reporter of this bug. Fortunately, it seems to have gone away by itself sometime in late Hardy/early Intrepid. Sorry I don't know the details. I had switched back to Emacs-X11. One day, I got so sick of the ugly fonts that I reinstalled Emacs-Snapshot, and it just worked.
