The obvious first step is to remove it - purge gcursors from your system. It's not included with Intrepid.
The best update that Intrepid could make is for themes to be installed to the shared directory. I currently have three bookmarks in my Root Nautillus bookmarks - the first is /home/ben/.themes - which is my personal repository. This is where themes dropped into the Appearance window are put. These themes don't work in your sudo apps, so these applications are still pig ugly! After installing a few themes, you should open a Root Nautilus, go to /home/YOURNAME/.themes, select all, cut everything out, then press CTRL+T to open a new tab... Type the address /usr/share/themes and paste the lot into there! Now do a quick (ALT+F2) gksu synaptic - and you should see your current theme applied to the root window also. Take care - if you use Nautilus as root now, it is not distinguished - but it will hold its own settings. Personally, I gave it a 'gnome footsteps' background to make it look different to my normal Nautilus. Last note - I found Softpedia has tons more/better themes than gnome- org. I now have a great selection. For cursors, Obsidian is my favourite, Silver (3d chrome animated) is second. For Themes, try out BlueHeart/BlueJoy, DarkCaramel, GBand-GTK2, Metal-0.6.1, Sunday, Muku, OS V (great border), Raptor, Slickness (normal and black, not brown) For window borders - there are one or two good wooden ones, the rest are trash. I mean GOOD. Best borders include XP Royale for running virtualbox, Thinner (no border), OS V, Moomex, MetaGrip, GBand GTK2, Future. There are a couple of others - but after 8 months working at it, I had maybe three favourites. After two days on Softpedia, I have 8 favourites. Don't fix the cursors - they work fine, the problems come with icons not installing correctly (folders often default to ugly gnome). ** Attachment added: "Nice Pine theme - what do you think?" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19509985/Wood%20light.png -- gcursor doesn't change mouse cursor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138491 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
