Nice to know. A couple of follow-up questions:

   1. what is the purpose of krunner?
   2. how should I go about removing krunner after startkde is initiated?
should I place a command in the rc.local file, something like "kill -9
   krunner"?

Thanks.

this is a stupid hack, but it does the job - if you don't rely on krunner to
start your programs

starting it again makes the screen flashes re-appear.
