I also have the same problem after upgrading to Intrepid, with a : 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
My monitor needs 1024x768 resolution but gdm start with a different resoluzion but when I start gnome the resolution is switched to 1024x768.
