Hello Alexander, Internet Sharing cannot be currently configured without falling back to the command line in GNOME. Network Sharing can indeed be enabled with the network manager applet, but that does not set up internet sharing.
The official ubuntu wiki guide currently requires command line black magic: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing There is a blueprint that requests one click internet connection sharing (just like network sharing), but it is not implemented so far: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneClickInternetSharing I've been successful in setting up network sharing in Intrepid using the network manager applet, and the two computers could see each other, however I couldn't get internet sharing to work (even using the commandline), and so I gave up and booted into OS X. In OS X, you check "Internet Connection Sharing" in System Preferences, and give the network a name and optionally a password. That is all that is required.
