Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

With ubuntu 8.10 + fdisk (util-linux-ng 2.14) + mkfs.ext2 + chown some
of the volume icon names and owners are not updated in Nautilus
2.24.1.

I created several 2G partitions to an 8GB USB memory stick with fdisk,
formatted and named them with mkfs.ext2 and changed the ownership with
chown.

Problem 1. In Nautilus at 'Places' window one of the created volumes was
erroneously shown as having a name '2.1 GB Media' while under the mount
point Nautilus showed the proper name what I had given it with
mkfs.ext2.

Problem 2. Nautilus did not show the new ownership in the Properties
window. It erroneously claimed that the owner still was root. With a
terminal command ls -l /media/volume_name I could see that the real
owner was as I had commanded with chown.

Neither of the problems could be corrected by refreshing the window or
closing and restarting Nautilus. Logging off and relogging did rectify
the problem though.
