** Description changed:

The Dell Optiplex GX-260 doesn't look to now be compatible with Ubuntu
8.10. That is unfortunate, as we mostly have GX-260s'. If anyone has an
idea on how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

When I install it, the desktop doesn't come up. All I get is either a
black or brown screen and mouse pointer I can move.

+ boot in rescue mode
+ select root shell prompt
+ sudo apt-get remove compiz
+ sudo apt-get remove compiz-core
+ exit
+ resume normal boot

+ If later on you want to try compiz you can install it with Synaptic. As
+ of today compiz still freezes my pc. The "official" fix is blacklisting
+ some graphics hardware so that compiz won't start.
