** Description changed: Binary package hint: upgrade-system I have tried to upgrade two machines from 8.04 to 8.10 using the alternative CD and cdromupgrade. At the start of this process you are asked whether to download the latest version from the net. 1.On Machine 1 I answered "yes" and the upgrade proceeded to download - 450MB - inother words, effectively the whole distribution. Unless 450MB + 450MB - in other words, effectively the whole distribution. Unless 450MB of updates had been issued in one day, that is. 2.On Machine 2 I answered "no" and the upgrade ran fast and from the CD. Except that it didn't: when I ran update manager there was a slew of uninstallable upgrades. No option for a distribution upgrade was given, but that was what was needed, via apt-get. - The CD-ROM upgrade is a nice iea, but it would be nice if it used the - CD-ROm and did the upgrade.
