Hello, I am afraid this is not exactly answering the question, but as far as I remember, I did not get the problem from 7.10 to 8.04. Sorry, but I do not plan to upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 shortly, because I read (register.co.uk) that there is an Nvidia driver issue: the new, open driver that replaces the old glx/legacy proprietary driver would not support 3D acceleration. As I do have an Nvidia video card, I think I am going to wait for better news on this...
