Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sun-java6-jre
I've recently upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10. Suddenly there are broken links to java and no firefox plugin for it. The problem is that the links point to openjdk (which I don't have anymore). Although update- alternatives still says I've got only one package and that it is set right, it won't bother to have a look, if the links are really set right, and won't do anything at all. (tried update-alternatives --set java /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java). I had to set it manually. Second problem is that java plugin just vaporized and I can't find it (neither installed file nor package). A user, who wouldn't know anything about the alternatives linking mechanism wouldn't be able to repair it, because the only message I got was command not found. # ls -lh /etc/alternatives/java* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 36 2008-11-04 10:56 /etc/alternatives/java -> /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 37 2008-10-30 17:51 /etc/alternatives/javac -> /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/javac lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 2008-10-30 17:51 /etc/alternatives/javadoc -> /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/javadoc lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 37 2008-10-30 17:51 /etc/alternatives/javah -> /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/javah lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 37 2008-10-30 17:51 /etc/alternatives/javap -> /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/javap lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 2008-10-30 17:51 /etc/alternatives/javaws -> /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/javaws lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 46 2008-11-04 10:56 /etc/alternatives/java.1.gz -> /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/man/man1/java.1.gz (there should be java-6-sun everywhere) ** Affects: sun-java6 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- broken links on commands java* after upgrade (8.04->8.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293718 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
