me too facing same problem on Compaq V3137TU (V3000 series) laptop. Everything was ok with 8.04 but when i upgraded to 8.10 and system freezes on "Shuting down ALSA...". The only way to shutdown is to power off [:(] Somebody please fix this bug.....
