It amazes me the duplicative and competitive projects that occur in the FOSS community. A prime example is the gnome nm applet and wicd. Another is ubuntu-eee and eeebuntu. Again another is this Cruft remover and Ubucleaner. The author of Ubucleaner has already successful created a script that performs this function correctly. A copy of this script is attached.
