@Michael, sorry, but i don't have this file... i think all this misbehaviour came after a fsck repair... i did a manuall fix (removind the reference to linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-15-generic from /var/lib/dpkg/status file as described on ubuntuforums as an alternative fix to the one cited by Jean.
