I have the same issue with nVidia 6100 and Intrepid nvidia-glx-177. X window starts but on black screen I can see only 2px line at the top.
What is the shame Xorg's driver 'nv' also doesn't work correctly with 6100 and my LCD Benq FP72E, allowing only 800x600 resolution for 17" LCD (with native res 1280x1024). What I can do now is just to use 'vesa' driver for X (of course without any 2D/3D hardware acceleration).
