I had the same issue in the spring. It seemed to go away by mid to late summer. Now that I have updated to Intrepid, Evolution 2.24.1, it is back.
I am using the exchange back end. This problem cannot be fixed with the Send/Receive button, nor by highlighting different folders and coming back. It just seems to fix itself after hours. When new messages arrive, the incorrect counts just increment, i.e. if there are ten false "unreads" and 6 real ones, and 2 new ones arrive the folder increments from 16 to 18. The title bar and taskbar counts seem to be accurate.
