I found out what *my* problem was. I am trying to boot from this raidset, and the script that runs dmraid -ay to activate the raidset was in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/dmraid. I needed to copy this into local-premount and regenerate my initrd. After that my machine would boot without issues.
