You have been subscribed to a public bug: I used the grub editor in kde4 systemsettings panel to remove some of the kernel-listings that grub can run. When I upgraded the linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic package I was told there was a conflict because I had edited the grub file. Did I want to install the new one supplied or did I want to keep my own. The upgrade should just add the new kernel to the menu and keep the users settings.
