When I was debugging the segfault problem I noticed that the device
didn't seem to reset its session state.

I had to unplug the device, wait for a few seconds, and plug it back in.
Are the PTP error messages all related to the session? If so, the
unplug, re-plug workaround might resolve them.

If the segfault comes back, try adding libSegFault.so it to LD_PRELOAD:

export LD_PRELOAD="/lib/libSegFault.so"

You may need to recompile libmtp with debugging.

If you could paste the resulting output in this case, that would help
track down the problem.
