I got it working. I changed the WPA-key in my router. After that everything worked fine.
I have no clue why it did not work with the old one. I more than triple checked it. Also it did not work with an upgraded 8.04 machine where the WPA-key must have been correct. Anyway, try setting a new WPA-key in your router.
