Thanks Erik... those other bugs gave a bit more insight on where to look into possible problems. However, this still has not fixed the issue I'm having. Tomorrow I'm going to reinstall from scratch and see if I can track down what I did wrong.
On a side note, I have been able to get pulseaudio working on my mythbox and my laptop without any problems such as these.
