Hi! I have the same problem in Intrepid beta, but Impress doesn't ignore the effects, it just crashes. I tried installing the first version of the package openoffice.org-ogltrans from Hardy, and Impress doesn't crash, but doesn't display the transitions either. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1525 with a Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller, using Ubuntu 8.10 beta 32-bit (i386). I also run Compiz, glxgears and opengl screensavers correctly. I've tried disabling Compiz when using impress and these transitions, but the result is the same. Also, the effects worked perfectly fine under Hardy.
