I experience freezes very rarely lately. It looks as if the freezes are due to two separate issues: Sometimes the freeze is associated with a critical increase in cpu temperature (I have a cpu temperature applet running which I always check when the system freezes). However, I don't understand why the system locks, instead of rebooting when it overheats. What is weird is that the cpu frequencies do go down when the cpu T goes up and the fan cannot cope with the cpu T increase. However, obviously this does not happen every time efficiently. However, sometimes the system crashes without being accompanied by a cpu T increase. I may try the e1000e driver which may fix the second type of freeze, however I do not see how this would fix the cpu T problem.
