The error messages shown has changed a bit, now the only thing printed after I tell Knetworkmanager to start VPN, is:
Oct 23 08:52:33 envy NetworkManager: <WARN> wait_for_connection_expired(): Connection (2) /org/freedesktop/NetworkManagerSettings/Connection/2 failed to activate (timeout): (0) Connection was not provided by any settings service ...and nothing happens. Seeing how the GNOME nm-applet can't see Knetworkmanager's VPN definitions and vice verca, and how the GNOME applet is able to successfully start the connection, I suspect Knetworkmanager is saving the connection definition in an incorrect way, so that the NetworkManager system daemon are unable to pick up the settings, and it fails. But that's just guessing...
