The error messages shown has changed a bit, now the only thing printed
after I tell Knetworkmanager to start VPN, is:

Oct 23 08:52:33 envy NetworkManager: <WARN>
wait_for_connection_expired(): Connection (2)
/org/freedesktop/NetworkManagerSettings/Connection/2 failed to activate
(timeout): (0) Connection was not provided by any settings service

...and nothing happens.

Seeing how the GNOME nm-applet can't see Knetworkmanager's VPN
definitions and vice verca, and how the GNOME applet is able to
successfully start the connection, I suspect Knetworkmanager is saving
the connection definition in an incorrect way, so that the
NetworkManager system daemon are unable to pick up the settings, and it
fails.  But that's just guessing...
