I also have the same problem.
I first installed kubuntu 8.19 beta on a partition. After that I deleted my
other partitions and merged them with my kubuntu partition. That screwed my
grub and I had to grub-install from my live cd. After that there is no last
good boot and As mentioned in the bug report i dont either have
/boot/last-good-boot nor /lib/modules/last-good-boot
