According to www.linuxprinting.org the recommend driver for your printer is LaserJet 4/4M 600DPI Postscript (recommended): http://www.linuxprinting.org/foomatic-db/db/source/PPD/HP/mono_laser/HP_LaserJet_4.ppd. Please try if this PPD gives the same result.
