Nop, wlanconfig is for madwifi-ng chipset, whereas what you made me install looks more for linux-wlan-ng. The previous incantation (Dapper) worked with the standard iwconfig, and _did_work_. My hand-compiled wlanconfig does change the mode, but the card _does_not_work_ as an access point anymore.
