Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit
Recently, gedit fails at writing specific files over SFTP. When certain files ARE writable (e.g. by group permissions, or because the user is root) but not owned by the user directly, gedit kicks back in read-only mode. More cases of the problem can be found at the ubuntu fora: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5977042 An example: server:/tmp# ls -la test -rwxrwxr-x 1 www-data www-data 0 2008-10-16 19:22 test server:/tmp# groups tim tim : tim dialout cdrom floppy audio www-data video plugdev admin downloaders this is a file located on a remote server, but NOT editable by the user "tim". It is also not editable by the "root" user.
