Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

First of all, some stats:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/fmendes# cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 8.04.1"

And for cups:
cupsys:
  Installed: 1.3.7-1ubuntu3.1
  Candidate: 1.3.7-1ubuntu3.1
  Version table:
 *** 1.3.7-1ubuntu3.1 0
        500 http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1.3.7-1ubuntu3 0
        500 http://pt.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages

The problem:
Cups just won't print. It was working fine before, I was called in to check
some permission issues (when accessing the web interface, nothing to do with
the bug itself - the main thing I did was allowing an ip to the Admin and
Admin/conf sections and I also tried "DefaultEncryption Never" - but when the
problems started that was the first line to be commented out). I restarted
cups, it all seemed fine, but it just won't print. The job shows up on cups and
after a while it's shown as completed, even though there is nothing happening
on the printer itself...
I already tried restarting cups, re-enabling the printer, I even removed and
added the printer again, all the same.
With the help of http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems I managed to
see (on /var/log/messages and upon reconnecting the usb printer) that there was
a firmware file missing, so I used "wget 1018 (as suggested by the error
itself), which downloaded a "sihp1018.img" file to the working dir. I moved
that to /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1018.dl (since it was the file which
was missing) and now the same message (from /var/log/messages) reads:

Oct 16 17:47:23 dark-printer /usr/sbin/hplj1018: foo2zjs: loading HP LaserJet
1018 firmware /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1018.dl to /dev/usb/lp0 ...
Oct 16 17:47:23 dark-printer /usr/sbin/hplj1018: foo2zjs: ... download
successful.

I am sending attaced the PrintingBugInfo file, hope it helps.
Please help, I have been here for hours and it all looks fine... I also just
trying printing a test page from the HP Device Manager (comes with hplip, I
think) and it said it was printed correctly... (needless to say nothing came
out!).

A million thanks in advance,
Daniel
