** Description changed:

  Laptop is Toshiba Satellite M55-S3314.  Card reader is Texas Instruments
  PCIxx21 chipset 5-in-1.  This worked fine in Breezy and Dapper.  Doesn't
  work in Edgy.
  
- Inserting an SD or MMC card yields nothing.  dmesg |tail indicates:
+ Inserting an SD or MMC card yields nothing in terms of automounting, or
+ being able to find the card in /media, etc.
+ 
+ After insertion/removal several times for the card, dmesg |tail
+ indicates:
