I have similar problems (bug #43391) and as I wrote there, it is
possible to go round this problem by removing /etc/acpi/lid.sh and then
commanding: sudo ln -s /etc/acpi/sleepbtn.sh /etc/acpi/lid.sh.

This has the effect that when the lid is closed the machine runs
sleepbtn.sh and effectively puts it in sleep state =)

Of course this does not solve the problem, but makes it easier to live
with it...
