Public bug reported:

When I click on System|Administration|Users and Groups, a dialog box pops up.
When I select my username and click on the Unlock button, I get an
authentication error. Not sure how to get permission to mount a backup disk
that was able to connect to the file system just 2 days ago when I tried last.
Thanks you for any help you may provide.

I also see sandscript looking characters when I try and access
System|About Ubuntu. Not sure why.
