There are better ways (input device properties) to turn things off, and
SHMConfig is easily enabled through fdi files. syndaemon has been ported
to input device properties, as referenced in that recent mailing list
thread.

As for your comment that syndaemon might be on by default soon, I hardly
think that a suggestion from someone with a minimal relationship to
Ubuntu development counts.
