I'm having the same problem. I'm running this command "mencoder 1031_20080922200000.mpg -of mpeg -ovc copy -oac copy -o test.mpg"
I record hdtv from my antenna using mythtv. I'm trying to use mencoder to change the mpeg from an mpeg-ts to an mpeg-ps so it will play on my mythtv box. It's using over 4 gigs of RAM plus 2 gigs of swap space. My system never "dies" but it slows to a crawl. I'm not even able to get in to kill the mencoder process. I'd love to see some activity on this bug report.
