I've found a trick for getting xrandr to propose the right + detects my 16:10 monitor as low resolution 4:3. This goes for both hdmi + and vga. I've found a trick for getting xrandr to propose the right resolution, and that is to connect a lcd-tv 32" to the computer, and have it detect that one. Afterwards the monitor gets detected as a 16:10 - screen. + screen.
