Hardy booted fine but then the graphics go very strange indeed - lots of
green all over the place. Sorry that I don't have a screenshot or more
information.

I tried using wubi.exe to install Intrepid from within Windows, and that
actually seemed to work with no problems. However, I then had some
(admittedly minor) problems from within Ubuntu, also regarding graphics.
I couldn't enable 3d desktop effects using the default, open source ATI
driver, and when I went to Hardware Drivers, there were no restricted
drivers available to me. I tried manually installing the driver from the
ATI website, but I got errors identical to those described in this
thread: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?p=47380

After that, I restarted my computer, and X wouldn't load. I uninstalled
Ubuntu.
