Hi Leann, Without splashy I was able to at least get gdm to fail gracefully and go into low resolution mode which very nicely gives me a fair amount of troubleshooting control. I certainly like the ability to drop to root shell and modify settings if I need to. However, after making any chances, resuming boot simply does nothing (black screen, no drive activity, no response to ctrl-alt-bksp).
I've attached one of the failed X startup archive logs for your use. It should be noted that my X configuration works just fine in 2.6.27-3 and re-installing the drivers from the failsafe root console did not fix the problem. I have an NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS video card just for the record. Thanks. ** Attachment added: "Failed X startup log and configuration" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18158187/failsafeX-backup-081003055333.tar -- kernel update 2.6.27-4-generic fails to boot - X remains dark https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276173 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
