Nevertheless, changing umask from 077 to 022 in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf and
copying it into initrd fixes it.

Scott, I presume it's always udev or devmapper that creates the actual
block devices? If so, it should be safe enough to change lvm's default
umask to something other than 077, AFAICS.

Also, I'm wondering if not copying lvm.conf into initrd is intentional?
