I am getting the same error running wesnoth. I already deleted
~/.wesnoth and I do have libasound2-plugins installed. When I run
wesnoth from the terminal, I get an error identical to the the terminal
error reported by M Dewitt, preceded by this line:

ALSA lib pcm_pulse.c:629:(pulse_prepare) PulseAudio: Unable to create
stream: Invalid argument

Let me know if you want any additional information.
