I can confirm this (Edgy final). The bug is quite strange. It goes like this. Suppose you play one song in the background.
If you slide the volume slider to the bare minimum, the speaker icon will change to "mute" and the "mute" will be checked in menu that appears when you do the right-click on icon. However, the sound can still be heard! But if you open the Volume Control window (alsa mixer) and check "Mute/Unmute Master" icon, it will mute all channels accordingly! Also, if you keep open the Volume Control window, the slider will work. Manually checking the mute parameter in right-click window also works. So the only thing that is not working good here is the slider... However, the slider is probably the most important and used sound tool in daily work. My hardware is: VIA Technologies, Inc.
