Public bug reported:

I am using the latest Intrepid alpha release. After running apt-get
update and then apt-get upgrade, the upgrade froze up at 'starting
hardware abstraction layer hald' for about ten minutes- I could not move
the mouse or change tabs or anything- it appeared to be totally frozen.
So I hard booted and tried to re-run apt-get update, after which I got a
message saying I needed to run #dpkg --configure -a. So I did that, and
it also freezes at 'starting hardware abstraction layer hald'. I'm new
to Linux so not really sure what info to include, but I've attached my
#dmesg output. Please let me know if further info is needed.
