yes i tried both, but nothing improves. i remember that after sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, i got atleast the login page. but after i entered my login ID and password, i get a light brown page instead of black and a cursor which can be moved.thats all! keyboard shortcuts did not work.
