I was looking at this, and I think the solution would be to use http

and http://www.pygtk.org/docs/pygtk/class-atktext.html

With http://www.pygtk.org/docs/pygtk/class-atktext.html#method-atktext
--get-bounded-ranges we should be able to get the chunks of tet for this
specific terminal, send we can highlight (setting the selection).
