This seems to be fixed in hardy with the security updates that came in today firefox-3.0 (3.0.2+build6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1) xulrunner-1.9 (1.9.0.2+build6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1)
