This is wrong as your home or /etc/ directory is reponsible for this.
The GConf directories contain configuration information for your 
applications. You should rather try to identify the keys which are set 
to a "wrong" value.

Please don't follow this advice as it deletes pretty much all of your 
configuration data, i.e. Panel or Evolution settings.
